Brushing and Flossing Ritual!

I always suffered because of my teeth since my early childhood. But at that time I was not aware of it. In the beginning the doctor used to extract my rotten birth tooth, and it would come back again after some time. But I didn’t know the concept that teeth can be replaced only once in our life time. I thought it will come up again every time after extraction. After all my birth teeth were replaced, I still kept having problems with my second set of teeth.

Back then at home there was a rule that no one was allowed to eat any thing before taking shower. I was always the witty and naughty one since was the youngest among three brothers. I would do cheating all the time. I was and still am very fond of biscuits. My biscuit cota was the minimum of 8-9 per day in those days and I would never scrimp on that . That was way too much. But in order to eat these many biscuits I had to start eating them since early morning. No one understood that, but I had no problem. I would stealthily eat them. In order to do that I would eat 1-2 biscuits even before brushing my teeth, so that no one can even think of this disgusting habit of mine .

This way I would brush my teeth every day with 2 biscuits .Later I would get over with the ritual of brushing my teeth with proper brush and taking shower too. That was it, after that I was free to eat as many as I could. Little did I know that one day I have to pay the price for it. I never cared about getting fat, as Indian kids need not have to worry about getting fat, because we used to play a lot and had so much physical activities.

But as days passed, even though I left the habit of eating without brushing, my problem of teeth still existed. At later age I was still not all that concerned for my teeth problem. For me the day I had to go to the dentists was one of my best days. Why so? Any guess guys----?

It was because before filling cavity my father would take me to the best restaurant near by and get me to eat what ever I wanted. As since early childhood I was a glutton, for me nothing can be better than food and that too good food. So I would wait for months to have some cavity.

Slowly as I grew up I started to understand the importance of better oral hygiene. Also as I grew up my natural concerns for looks and beauty also ripened. It was then that I realized the importance of teeth. Thankfully till then I had not lost any tooth because of my ignorance and bad habit.

But now greater problem than that has arisen. After coming to the U.S.,my life has changed a lot.Just Imagine a person like me has go to the dentist every 6 months for my gum cleaning. As per the doctor’s advice, I floss and brush twice every day. Some times before going to bed, flossing seems such a big ritual, that I pray to God I didn’t have any teeth. Or may be I can buy a set of disposable teeth and replace every day. That way I don’t have to brush and floss every day and at the same time my beauty will also not get ruined. But I don’t see any sign of that in near future, and as soon as I remember the pain of drilling in my tooth ,I sprang up from the bed to floss and brush.

Since Americans are so good at manufacturing luxury items, so that we don't have to move our bodies much, perhaps some day they will think about these disposable teeth. I am sick and tired of flossing and brushing my teeth every day. My life has become the slave of my teeth, taking care of them and I want to get rid of them. But no! Not in an ugly way. Some thing simple, beautiful and less tiring.
