Motivation in Real Life Example

Through out our lives we get motivated by many people .On the other hand some of the advises are given in such a way that they actually crush your motivation, lower down your self esteem to such a low level that you will never be able to get over with it. The fact that the suggestions based on what ever knowledge a person has gleaned in the past or some of the knowledge he/she still continue to glean may not work out for you.

As a result, over the time I have come to a succinct conclusion about giving positive feedback or positive motivation. In this post, I would like to share with you all. I have tried to make it very simple by giving an everyday life example.

Positive/Negative

Suppose your roommate cleans up all the dirty dishes when you are not at home just to help you out. What will be your reaction when you see the dishes clean? There are two possibilities you will say :-

1) Thank you for doing the dishes, but next time, try to get all the food particles off.

2) Thank you for doing the dishes .Next time ,use this sponge to clean the dishes .I have found it works really well on the large pots.

If you notice in the second sentence the word “but” has been removed, from the statement. When you compliment someone just make it fare without using the adage of “but”. The impact of “but” is so disastrous that the whole idea of compliment is gone and the person remembers only the after part of “but”, not the before part.

Positive ways to tell some one to improve/suggestion/motivation.

1) Thank you for doing the dishes.

2) I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

3) I also liked that you put them away.

4) Next time, try using this sponge .I have found, it really works well on the large pots.

5) Thank you again for doing the dishes .I really appreciates your thoughtfulness.

Some times the goal should be to compliment for what the person did right so he/she will know what to keep on doing .The positives need to outweigh the areas of improvement. Harshness can never be the solution for any thing.

We all learn little at a time. So one or two suggestions may be enough, even if there is more.

  2. and i have also observed, if u gotta say two things to a person- one good n one bad n if u cannot avoid using but, always say the bad thing first n then but n then the gud thing. the sentence tht follows but has the highest impact.

  3. This makes great sense. Sometimes one word in the sentence can ruin the whole effort.
